Entertaiment refers to activities intended for enjoyment or amusement. It encompasses many forms and scales, from the private entertainment choices of an individual to performances adapted for large groups or for global audiences. It may also be serious in intent, as in the case of a religious festival or satire. It is a familiar concept and its themes, images and structures continue to be used across media – for example the Scheherazade story has inspired an orchestral work by Rimsky-Korsakov, a film by Pasolini and an innovative video game.
